Kirkstreit twisting himself into a pretzel. But we all knew the second that the final gun sounded in the SEC title game that Alabama was in. (gasp) Can’t have a CFP without an SEC team, god forbid.
That really, really sucks for FSU (and leaving an undefeated P5 champ out is sh*ty, regardless of the circumstances) but I do think they got it right with the four best teams. Would have loved to see what might have happened had Travis not gotten injured.
Both playoff games will be good ones. I’m going with Michigan over Bama, but not sure what to think of Washington/Texas. Both teams have looked very shaky at times, but both also stepped up when they needed to. Leaning towards Texas, but a Husky win wouldn’t surprise me.
Y’all remember when the Alliance was going to make sure this didn’t happen.
FSU got screwed. If this happened to any other team, the team and their fan base would be rightfully upset. Had Alabama and Michigan ran the table but lost their QB for the last two games and then eked out wins in the conference championship games, and then been left out, they would be screaming right now.
Did they really get the four best teams? Georgia, Ohio St, and Oregon could make arguments that they are one of the four best teams.
It started with controversy. Now it ends with controversy.
The King is Dead (4 Team Playoff). All Hail the King (12 Team Playoff)
Let the new controversies abound.
It’s an all Big-10/SEC playoff after all.
A lot of weight is given to Alabama “beat the #1 team”. Hell, maybe Georgia was overrated all year.
It’s a mess. And it will still be a mess next year when they go to 12 teams. Because #13 and #14 are gonna be upset. Probably #15 too.
this sure seems like it’s a how can we get the most eyeballs tournament.
Northeast check
Texas check
Northwest check
South check
I wonder if there was a conversation about swapping UW for USC
The ACC was arguably better than the SEC this year too. Someone mentioned that the SECs best out of conference win - for any team - was a win over Louisville. The team that FSU just handled with their 3rd string QB.
Such a mess.
You’re probably right. Louisville being the second best ACC school probably would smoke Georgia.
I don’t expect that will have quite the level of intensity as only selecting four teams. Fanbases will inevitably be up in arms, but the chances of a 12 seed being competitive in a playoff are significantly less than a top four, imo.
I will say, I am happy to see my team in the Rose Bowl. I think it sucks FSU got snubbed. I think last year is where the BCS would have worked and this year we need a 12 team playoff.
Maybe not. But every year there is whining and sniveling about who got in and who got left out of the basketball tourney, and that includes 68 teams.
I remember years ago Dick Vitale using an entire selection show having a meltdown because UNLV got invited to the dance.
Interesting how FSU is ranked ahead of Georgia. Going by their “criteria”, their QB being hurt, shouldn’t Georgia be ahead of FSU?
It is weird. FSU would have been left out as well if Georgia won.
This just further cements a “Power 2” as I imagine FSU will bolt the ACC as soon as humanly possible…GOR exit fees be damned.
Utah better be planning on how to break down that door (entirely unsure if that will be possible), or we’ll be fooked.
And it wasn’t even difficult to get it right this year, yet somehow, the committee managed to screw it up.
Can we agree that the selection committee confirmed Jordan Travis is the most important, and best college player in the last ten years and should be handed the Heisman without argument.
An honest question, do you feel like we have ever been on the inside of that doorway?
Even with our Pac championships, I still feel like we have been standing on the porch ringing the doorbell.
