The game was played Sept. 21. You are thinking of the New Mexico game. Erroll Tucker had a sweet punt return for a TD in a wild, high-scoring game. That game, incidentally, put Utah at 8-2, but then they wet the bed at Colorado St before losing at TDS in a very winnable game.
Yep. I remember the Wazzu game. Took my dad, and I remember the weather being nice.
Well, I did plow through 2 bota bags. I went to both of those games, must be the Red and Silver uniforms that confused me. ![]()
The WSU game was a shootout too. That 1985 season, Utah started out 5-0, which at that time was unheard of for Utah football.
Its coming back to me now, Remember Tuckers return, fresh footprints in the snow.
Tucker was the first player I remember being enthralled by. The guy was incredible. For you younger fans, in 1985, he led the nation in both kickoff return and punt return average. That had never been done before, and I don’t belive it has been done since. That season, he had two punt return TDs and two kickoff return TDs, plus a kickoff return TD against Air Force called back and a punt return TD against TDS called back.
For good measure, he had six INTs in '85 with three TDs. His seven combined TDs in those three categories remains a single-season NCAA record.
Errol Tucker is still my wife’s favorite Ute ever.
Still remember the fans yelling out Errrrrooollllll!!! when he was back there to receive a punt.
One of the few players in all of college football history to have multiple KO returns for TD, multiple punt returns for TD, and multiple pick-sixes in a season.
His pro career was cut short due to knee injuries, unfortunately.
Well Choklahoma State has arrived…in the Bottom 10
Leavitt out for the year at ASU.
They can still probably get past WVU and Colorado with Sims, but I can’t see them beating Iowa State or Arizona.
Shame. Now they know how Utah felt in 2023 and 2024.
And they might lose Dillingham if enough money is waved at him to convince him to leave his hometown.
I think this may be Deion’s last season in Boulder.
17-0 Arizona, 1st quarter
I think even his most ardent supporters are figuring out that he is a fraud. He is a game show host masquerading as a coach. He is a hype machine but is a terrible X’s and O’s coach. CU had success last season because of a generational talent in Hunter.
Was 38-7 at half. They’ve now been outscored 81-7 in the first half of their past two games.
This team was tissue soft to begin with and now they’ve simply quit.
52-14 early 3rd quarter. Wow.
I had an employee, a software developer, working for me on and off for most of the the period between 1993 and 2018. He followed me or one of my colleagues around to 3 different companies in that time frame. He was a Colorad9 grad , a senior in 1990, when they won their National Championship.
I had season tickets for Ute football all of that timeframe and for all of the early years we worked together had to listen to his insufferable (BYU 1984 style) hype about how great a program the Buffs were, and how the Utes could not possibly compete with a team of their stature. I mostly just smiled and let him make a jackass of himself.
When we started sharing a conference in the PAC12, I (mostly) smiled a lot more and noticed that with a couple of rare seasons of exceptions, he did not talk much about his team around me or any of the other Utefans working around us.
That championship was 35 years ago, and Utah is something like 12-3 against Colorad9 in the years since I started working with this fellow. When I think of him, the term Mile High Zoob always comes to mind.
