lol. The Lord giveth (to the family) and the Lord taketh away (poor Sizzler). lol.
And now that Sizzler is gone. I think we know who to blame…
We’re close to the West Valley Sizzler, which appears to still be doing a reasonably good business based on cars on the lot.
I’ve long ago given up on their ‘steaks’. The salad bar is excellent (love the Mexican food items) and the shrimp and Malibu chicken are very good. But if I want steak there are a number of better choices.
After 36 years away I did not know the Arctic Circle was still around. I stopped at one a few days ago and it was kind of like eating comfort food in a familiar setting. Maybe it was nostalgia. The place is not slick like the other fast food places (which I never patronize, except maybe Chik-Fil-A once a year when I have a yen for that sort of thing). Are there a lot of Artic Circles still in business?
There are a handful in Utah county.
There are a few around SLC. We go to the one on 3900S and 700E every now and then for the halibut and a lime ricky
Arctic Circle in Magna was one of their first restaurants.
Still one of the best shakes around.
Dang autocorrect!
On the old site there was a poster who’s father owned a couple locations. Maybe he’s still around and can update us.
That was the one I went to. I just happened to be driving by at lunchtime.
You realize you guys are derailing Sizzler chat with all of this Arctic Circle nonsense?
Any love for Golden Corral?
I haven’t lived in SLC for about 25 years now, so when we travel back to visit family, Arctic Circle is often on the list of things to do. Their food is marginal, but we love their shakes. Pumpkin shakes this time of year is a ‘must have’ for my family.
Right. There’s just something familiar and tasty about it once every couple of years. When I was in high school the one that was on 2100 South and about 20th East was a real hangout. Good times.
Cinegrill.

You must have been a Highland High student, huh? I remember hanging out there, and at a coffee shop on 11th East just north of 21st South, on the west side - don’t recall the name, but the building is gone now.

Cinegrill.
Best salad dressing around.

Small world…I worked at that location for about a year in 1980. I was 15 at the time, made about $2 / hr, and pretty much anything I did was probably a violation of some child labor law.
Not-so-fun fact: There was (is?) a Taco Bell just east of Arctic Circle on the corner of 21st and 21st. We were quite friendly with the employees there. One evening, the night manager came over to talk to us. His face was red, and he appeared to have been crying. He informed us that one of the employees named Ted had been murdered the night before in Liberty Park. It was a racially motivated killing by a piece of human debris named Joseph Paul Franklin. It was a sobering introduction for me into the world of nastiness and misery.
