Sharavjants signed with South Carolina.
I don’t know who Bill riley is talking about, but in an interview on ESPN 700 today he said the Utes would have 12 new players on the roster. I have only heard of 9.

Maybe Coach Jensen will do like Majerus did his first year or 2, and have open tryouts with the currently enrolled students. The walk-on and practice team type of experience.
I’ve read they need more guards.
Maybe. But in Majerus’ second season (first full season) of 1990–91, Utah had a very deep bench. They played 10 players in every game and occasionally went to players 11 and 12 with Larry Cain and Sean Mooney. This upcoming Ute team will be extremely thin.
I can still hear the crown late in a game that year chanting, “Mooney, Mooney, Mooney…”.
Sean was later one of my son’s Junior Jazz coaches. Great guy.
I think Mooney does a great job on the radio broadcasts.
New commitment! Elmeri Abbey is a 6’ guard out of finland. Played for Jvaskyla Basketball Academy in the second highest leauge there in finland and averaged 19.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 2.7 steals, 2.1 turnovers, and got to the line 6.3 times per game.
Thats 12 scholarships used. 1 -3 left depending on how thins shake out. Im hoping for some size, but we will see.
Hope he can develop into an assist machine that the opposing bigs hate to see coming into their zones. When you’re that size, physicality can be a great equalizer.
Ask anyone whoever played against John Stockton.
Utah’s last player from Finland worked out pretty well.
Well I assume you don’t mean Miro Little, he’s already gone. I liked Jantunen.. he had a huge upside and wished he would have stayed longer. Of course if you go way back, there was a legendary Finn that we’ll never forget.
Forgive me, I overlooked the two who came after Hanno.
Haha I’m thinking there may have been one or two more, those are just the ones that come to mind. But Hanno’s status is cemented.. he was a major part of the greatest Runnin’ Ute era.
Runnin Utes issue a press release announcing the new roster, including the addition of German sharpshooter Jacob Patrick.
I think summer practices are starting and thats the reason for the release. Of note, Alvin Jackson and Elmeri Abbey are not included int his. Per Steve Bartle, Abbey is fulfilling his duties to the Finnish Army and will join the program later this summer. Not sure on Jackson.
Patrick is new.
He’s joining the team later in the summer since he’s a JC transfer.
Not entirely sure this fits here, but didnt want to start a new thread.
Gabe Madsen has worked out for the Jazz, Cavs, Warriors, Nuggets, and Thunder. Lawson Lovering has worked out for the Grizzlies.
I think theres a non zero chance that Gabe gets drafted next week. I dont think its much higher than zero, but I dont think its zero. I think his most likely outcome is a summer league invitation and then maybe a two way deal or overseas.
Lawson is probably a g league or overseas candidate.

Another player
The shooting splits here make me laugh. 58/47/49.
But seems to be an ok rebounder and rim protector. I was hoping we would find a guy like this to be another big. Definitely needs to add strength.
