My dad was likewise in a union for most of his working life (airlines).
Iāll throw in 50kš
I respect that.
Iām not in a unionā¦have yet to be met by her. ![]()
Sheās a fickle beast, the labor union. I hope she meets you soon.
My ancestors were sheep herders and shopkeepers. No unions were available to them.
I find it strange that most people have responded to the question āAre you a union member?ā by letting us know about their relativesā union membership, as if itās hereditary.
I think it was mostly generational. (I also think weāre headed back to some type of collective bargaining. AI will blow the doors off white collar immunity to technological disruption.)
Back to the Portal, it certainly would help stabilize college athletics if contacts were involved and there was a single portal period for the year, eg, June.
I suppose it is safe to assume that those who responded about the membership of their relatives are not union members themselves. ![]()
I was not a union member. My daughter was a union member when working as a nurse in California. Interestingly, both of my daughters had babies in California and several of their nurses at hospitals in Thousand Oaks and Oakland live in Utah but commuted to Califorinia to work 6 shifts and then went back to Utah for 8 days. When the standard wage is 2.5X greater then SLC and holiday pay is double time, it makes it worth it. My nurse daughter was paid $200 per hour for holiday shifts.
Only ~10% of current workers are part of a union.
Back to the Portal talk because we need some players for next year ⦠someone spin this tangent conversation off.
Iām still trying to wrap my head around the idea that we saw āSpring Walk Onāsā announcing entry to the portal.
How did that Shyte ever become a thing?
What do you tell Craig Smithārecruit good players, but not too good because we canāt pay them.
Devion may not be worth what he is demanding, but if he walks what do you tell recruits?
We like you, but only so much.
Harlan should be the one calling the shots on $$āhis job is to raise it. And if he tells Craig Smith I will do what it talked to build a winnerāthen time to step up.
$650,000 is 1/10 of what they paid Larry K to get lost.
My father was a relentlessly self improving boulangerie owner with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15 year old prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. There were no Unions available to them either.
